Northside Physiotherapy

Northside Physiotherapy, located at 67 Hopkins Street, Moonah, Tasmania, offers pain relief and rehabilitation for joint and muscle pain. Our treatments include hands-on therapy, exercise programs, Clinical Pilates, hydrotherapy, and Kinetic Link Training. During a 30-minute appointment, a physiotherapist will assess your condition, explain the issue, and begin treatment. Our physiotherapists develop treatment goals collaboratively with you.

Our Team

Northside Physiotherapy boasts a team of skilled physiotherapists and a large rehabilitation gym equipped with Pilates beds, weight machines, exercise bikes, and fitballs. We also offer hydrotherapy at New Town Swim Central and utilize specialist equipment such as real-time ultrasound and therapeutic ultrasound. Leila Shahtahmasebi

Physiotherapist
Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPhty) & Post Graduate Certificate in Occupation Health – University of Otago

Leila graduated from the University of Otago with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy. She has over 15 years of Physiotherapy experience and has worked across Australia, New Zealand and the UK. She has a keen interest for sport injuries and dealing with patients who suffer from neck pain and headaches. Leila has worked in a variety of Physiotherapy settings including orthopaedic and hospital, as well as private practice and community healthcare sectors.

Leila enjoys spending time with her family, playing soccer and the violin and doing creative writing.

Izanne Viljoen

Physiotherapist
Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPhysT) – University of Pretoria

Izanne (Izzy) graduated from the University of Pretoria with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy. Throughout her career, she has gained over 18 years of experience in a variety of different Physiotherapy settings within Australia and South Africa. Izzy moved to Australia in 2011, and for the past 10 years has been working at Northside Physiotherapy. Izzy is passionate about treating patients with sacroiliac joint (SIJ) dysfunction, managing acute injuries and providing post-operative rehabilitation. She enjoys working with individuals who are recovering from workers’ compensation injuries and facilitating their return to work.

Izzy is an avid sports enthusiast with a particular interest in netball, AFL and hiking. Her years of playing various sports have provided her with a deep understanding of the mechanics of the body and the injuries that can arise with physical activity. This personal passion for movement and sports is integrated into her practice, allowing her to connect with and treat patients with a comprehensive, practical approach to injury prevention and rehabilitation.

Philip Rudd

Physiotherapist
Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) – Univeristy of South Australia

Philip (Phil) graduated from the University of South Australia with a Bachelor of Applied Science. He
has over 25 years of experience in the field, across a variety of settings in Tasmania, New South Wales and the Northern Territory. He has worked in private practice, public hospitals, community health and management. Phil is enjoying the switch from community health to private practice, where he is focusing more on the management of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) and scoliosis.

Phil likes to lead an active lifestyle, playing squash and running through the beautiful Tasmanian mountains. He values his time with his wife Sara and makes regular zoom calls to family on the mainland.

James Thomas

Physiotherapist
Graduate Diploma of Physiotherapy (GDipPhys) – University of Birmingham

James graduated from the University of Birmingham with a Graduate Diploma of Physiotherapy. He has over 35 years of experience as a Physiotherapist, with most of his time spent in private practice. He has worked in both the UK and Australia, in both hospital and private practice settings. James moved to Australia in 1993, where he has continued to provide expert care at Northside Physiotherapy. James enjoys working with knee, neck and back injuries, as well as helping those with workers compensation injuries rehabilitate and return to work.

James likes to spend his spare time outdoors bush walking and stand-up paddle boarding. He loves spending time with his family, especially with his best mate Angus (his dog).

Daniel Parsons

Physiotherapist
Master of Physiotherapy (MPhysio) – Griffith University

Daniel (Dan) graduated from Griffith University with a Master of Physiotherapy. He moved to Tasmania in 2014 and began his career as a Physiotherapist at Northside Physiotherapy. He has a keen interest in spinal physiotherapy and is passionate about helping people return to an active healthy lifestyle through personalised rehabilitation programs. Dan is a certified Kinetic Link (KLT) coach with skills in designing functional core strengthening programs. He also has a special interest in the non-surgical management of scoliosis and postural abnormalities.

Dan enjoys working outside and DIY projects.

Ahsan Qadeer

Physiotherapist
Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPhysT) - University of Lahore

Ahsan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Lahore, Pakistan, and relocated to Australia in 2025. He has extensive experience in hospital, outpatient, and community physiotherapy settings. He is a musculoskeletal physiotherapist with a particular focus on spinal rehabilitation. Ahsan employs a combination of manual therapy and movement correction techniques to restore function and optimise patient outcomes. His in-depth experience in competitive sports further enhances his expertise in injury management and post-operative care, ensuring a comprehensive, patient-centred approach to rehabilitation.
